It reminded me a little of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, but in a more exotic location. The gangsters/crooks or criminals in the book are very Kray brother. At the same time the story has noir like quality about it. The main character has a rather dark outlook on life and spends his time stuck in a perpetual self inflicted rut of highs and lows. The character of John could have a been a little less unaware and immature, especially in the dialogues and actions. I didn't think his parts worked well with the rest of the story.I can see the main character appealing to readers who like their crime and morality a little on the unconventional side.I received a free copy of this book for my review.
