I didn't think this was much of a horror thriller. It was full of horrific acts and details that I will grant you. The Native American ghost seems to possess Dewie and torments the main character with her own past the dangers her children face, but other than that to me this story was about abuse. The physical, verbal and sexual abuse towards women and children takes centre stage in this story and bringing that to a readers attention is commendable. Except it is also full of clichés about women in general and abuse.Right up until one female character said: he had to hit me and I had to let him. That's when the story lost its sincerity for me. I also found it extremely irritating that the same character has a womb that kept on contracting with shame.The last few chapters veer more into the horror genre and the entity shows a more demonic evil side and the initial concept becomes a little clearer. It wasn't my cup of tea, for me it just didn't gel right. I received a free copy of this book for my review.
